Those with an Albanian Partner

Congratulations on being in a relationship with someone who speaks Albanian! It’s a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and building a deeper connection. However, we understand that communication barriers can sometimes arise when people communicate in a non-native language!

But, don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Partners of Albanians

Why would those with an Albanian partner want to learn Albanian?

If your partner speaks English (or your home language) really well, it may not seem necessary at first to learn Albanian, but as those with an Albanian partner know, there are many times where misunderstandings occur or where meeting the family and understanding the culture more deeply become important in your relationship.

Learning your partner’s language gives you more insights into their culture, their upbringing and allows you to connect properly with family members who do not speak English. With family being such an integral part of life here in Albania, being able to get to know and understand them and their perspective is important.

Whatever your personal reason is, we understand the importance of this for you.

What do those with an Albanian partner need to do to start learning Albanian?

Each person’s situation is unique, and it’s important to establish what you know already, what your goals are and how you personally learn best.

For this we offer a free consultation call, so that we can help you put a learning plan together. Because learning a language without a plan is like driving without a map.

If you haven’t learnt any Albanian yet, then a good option is to get started with our Beginner Albanian Level 1 Course. Here you will learn the foundational language basics that you need to build on with future courses. You can then follow this up with the Level 2 course.

You also have the option to add 1:1 lessons at a discounted price to supplement the course, practice and get personalised feedback.

The second component to learning the language is to speak to people out in the wild so to say – so it’s time to commit to practicing Albanian every day. We know from many of our students that speaking Albanian with your partner isn’t always easy as they may prove to be particularly critical or not adjust their speaking to a level you can understand. So it may be easier to practice with strangers on a daily basis. If you’re in Albania, then you can do this when you do your shopping and run errands, if you’re outside of the country, then maybe attending meet-ups or events organised by the Albanian diaspora or practicing online with a language partner may be the better option for you.
